Device comprising a hollow body open at the top and description
a removable lid
The invention relates to a device comprising an upwardly open hollow body and a removable cover,
especially a weatherproof grave light.
Grave lights usually consist of a cup (can be made of different materials) that is filled with burning mass (usually mineral or organic waxes) and has a wick attached to it. A cover (often made of metal or plastic) is usually placed on top as weather protection and for visual reasons. Grave lights are usually burned outdoors and are the
Fully exposed to weather.
According to the prior art, lids for hollow bodies which are open at one side are known, in which a candle is arranged, the lid being a hollow body which is open at the bottom and can be plugged or screwed onto the hollow body which is open at the top, the jacket of the lid in attached state protrudes above the jacket of the hollow body open at the top, wherein the jacket of the lid is provided with openings. The openings are designed as vertically running openings, which are formed by openings in the jacket of the cover, for example by punching out circular surfaces. However, precipitation can easily penetrate through such openings, which is then to be drained off between the cover and the hollow body which is open on one side. So that penetrating precipitation does not get into the interior of the hollow body, which is open on one side upwards, it is known to design the hollow body with an upper edge area offset inwards and upwards relative to the openings, so that water penetrating from the side hits this edge area and not into it
Inside the hollow body arrives.
2723 page 1
EP 2955436 A1 shows a grave light cup which is designed as a hollow body which is open on one side and has an upper end region which tapers upwards, so that water penetrating through the cover between the cover and the
tapered end region is derived.
If the edge of the hollow body that is open on one side is sufficiently high, the candlelight is well protected against extinction due to gusts of wind and precipitation. However, it has been shown that the oxygen supply to the flame is restricted by the upwardly tapering upper end region of the hollow body which is open on one side, so that the flame extinguishes prematurely due to a lack of oxygen. The lack of oxygen supply can also lead to incomplete combustion, which increases CO emissions and
Soot formation results.
From AT519550B1 it is known to improve the burning properties by adding the cup of the grave light
Openings for air circulation are provided. This solution works well in itself, however, the additional ones cause
Openings in the cup additional manufacturing costs.
The object on which the invention is based is to provide an improved hollow body with a lid which is open on one side and which is weatherproof and has good burning properties and is more economical in that
Manufacturing is.
To solve the problem, a device according to claim 1 is proposed, comprising an upwardly open hollow body and a removable lid, with a burning mass arranged in the upwardly open hollow body with a wick, the lid being attachable to the hollow body, the jacket of the lid in the attached state, the jacket of the hollow body, which is open at the top, projects upwards, the jacket of the cover
is provided with openings and the lid is closed at the top,
Page 2
with the upper edge of the hollow body open at the top opposite
the lower edge of the lid of the lid is higher, whereby
the lid has an inner wall in the area of each opening, the upper edge of the inner wall lying further inside and higher than the lower edge of the openings and the lid with its area below the openings being fitted onto the hollow body which is open at the top, in In this area, there are several channels between the inner lateral surface of the cover and the outer lateral surface of the hollow body, the first end of the channels opening below the inner wall of the cover into the interior of the device and the second end of the channels leading to the outside of the device and wherein the first end of the channels is higher than that
second end of the channels.
It is thereby achieved that fresh air can flow in through the channels between the hollow body, which is open on one side, and the cover, which supplies the flame with oxygen. The combustion gases escape mainly through the openings in the lid. The advantage of the present invention is that this chimney effect is achieved with even simpler means and that the device through the inner wall of the cover
is protected against the ingress of liquid.
There is preferably an inner wall which extends around the entire inner
The outer surface of the cover runs.
The jacket of the cover and a cover surface, which closes the jacket on one side, are preferably formed from a first body of the cover. The inner wall is preferably part of a second body of the cover, the second body being in the first body
is stuck.
The second body preferably has a region adjoining the lower outer edge of the inner wall, which lies against the inside of the jacket of the first body, the inner wall starting from this region rising upwards and inwards
extends.
Page 3
In another embodiment variant, a plurality of inner walls are formed from the material of the casing in the area of its respective opening, the casing surface in the area of the respective opening being molded inwards from the plane of the remaining casing, so that the molded-in area of the casing is one from the lower end of the each opening opening towards the inside wall
forms.
The molded area of the jacket is preferred over at least a partial area of the height of the opening with the edge of the opening
connected.
There are preferably a plurality of webs distributed over their circumference between the cover and the hollow body which is open at the top, wherein in the
Area between the webs the channels are present.
The webs are preferred by shaping the open top
Hollow body formed.
The hollow body, which is open at the top, preferably has a widening, with support ridges on which the cover rests on the upper surface of the widening, with inlets in the region between the support ridges between the upper surface of the widening and the lower edge of the cover
are present, which are connected to the channels.
Preferably, an imaginary line from the upper edge of the respective opening of the cover to the upper edge of the inner wall of the cover located in its peripheral region forms an angle of at least 15 ° with an imaginary vertical line running through the upper edge of the opening of the cover, particularly preferably of at least 25 °, in particular at least 30 °. In one variant, the angle can be at least 45 °
be.
It is advantageously achieved that inclined precipitation is difficult to penetrate and gusts of wind are directed away from the flame, with this effect increasing
Angle to the vertical increases.

The hollow body which is open at the top is preferably made of plastic or glass, the material preferably being transparent
or is translucent.
The components of the lid are preferably made of metal or
Plastic formed.
The lid is preferably made of metal.
The inner body of the lid is preferably made of metal. The outer body of the lid is preferably made of metal.
The cover with the lower edge of the cover preferably lies on individual support webs of the hollow body which is open at the top, plug-on webs of the hollow body adjoining this support webs, against which the lid with its inner lateral surface lies. It is advantageously achieved that a gap results between the inner lateral surface of the cover and the outer lateral surface of the hollow body in the area between the plug-on webs, through which air can flow. The openings in the jacket of the cover are preferably above the upper edge of the open top
Hollow body before.
Some preferred embodiment variants of the hollow body according to the invention, which is open at the top, are shown in the drawings

1 shows a preferred embodiment variant of the present invention, consisting of a hollow body 1 that is open at the top and a lid 2. The lid 2 serves to close the hollow body 1 that is open at the top. The cover 2 is designed as a hollow body which is open on one side and has a casing 3 which is penetrated by openings 4. The jacket 3 is bounded at the top by a closed roof 5. The lower edge of the jacket 3 forms the lower lid edge 6, which is preferably widened, for example, as shown, by rolling the jacket 3 outwards to form an annular bead.
The jacket 3 is the wall of the lid 2.
The hollow body 1, which is open towards the top, has a circumferential widening 10, the upper annular surface of which is facing the cover 2. The widening 10 has support webs 11 which protrude upward from the annular surface,
so that the lid 2 with the lower lid edge 6 on the
71723 page 6
Support webs 11 of the widening 10 can be placed. Starting from the widening 10, there is a vertical prismatic section 15 of the hollow body 1, which is provided with attachment webs 12. The plug-on webs 12 are projections projecting radially from the outer lateral surface of the hollow body 1. In the plugged-on state, the cover 2 lies with its inner lateral surface against the attachment webs 12 and is preferably secured against unintentional lifting due to friction. Between the plug-on webs 12 there are channels 13 through which air can rise. The channels 13 between the plug-on webs 12 are connected at their lower end to inlets 14 between the support webs 11, which lead to the outside of the device. Air can penetrate in the gap between the lower lid edge 6 and the annular surface and rise in the channels 13, from which they then above the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 open at the top and below the inner wall 7 of the lid 2 into the interior of the
Device arrives.
The channels 13 are preferably at least 1 mm wide in the radial direction, preferably 2-4 mm wide, in particular 3 mm wide. The channels 13 preferably have a greater extension in the circumferential direction of the device than the plug-on webs 12. The attachment webs 12 are preferably between 1 and 10 mm wide. There are preferably at least three attachment webs 12,
preferably between three and ten attachment webs 12.
The upper edge of the vertical prismatic section 15 is
preferably the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1.
Below the widening 10, the hollow body 1 can have a taper, as shown in FIG. 11, or the hollow body 1 could extend from the widening 10 with a constant cross section to
run to its lower end.
In a less preferred embodiment variant, the widening 10 could be omitted if the cover 2 was attached to it
inner circumferential surface spaced from the lid edge 6 or

has several projections with which this at the top
vertical prismatic section 15 rests.
The cover 2 has openings 4 spaced upwards from the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 which is open at the top. The openings 4 are in the outer surface of the cover 2. In the example of FIG. 1, the jacket 3 of the cover 2 is made vertically, wherein there are vertical openings 4 in the jacket 3. The lid 2 has an inner wall 7, which forms an inwardly offset inner edge 8 of the lid 2. In the example of FIG. 1, the inner wall 7 is present as a circumferential frustoconical surface, the upper one being wider
inner edge of the inner wall 7 forms the inner edge 8.
The upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 is preferably further out
than the inner edge 8 of the inner wall 7.
The hollow body 1 is filled with a flammable potting compound, usually wax, or can be filled with one, with a wick usually at least approximately centrally in the potting compound
and runs vertically.
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the lower edge of the frustoconical surface of the inner wall 7 lies above the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 when the cover 2 is placed on the hollow body 1. The water penetrating through the, for example circular, openings 4 collects between the inner wall 7 of the cover 2 and the inner lateral surface of the casing 3 of the cover 2, which emerges again through the openings 4 as soon as the level reaches the lower edge of the openings 4. The lower edges of the openings 4 preferably lie on a plane with the lower edge of the frustoconical surface of the inner wall 7, so that precipitation penetrating through the openings 4 is entirely through the
Openings 4 expires.
As shown, the hollow body 1 and the cover 2 are preferably designed as a rotating body. The lid preferably settles

are nested. The outer body 18 is designed as a hollow body which is open on one side and has the jacket 3 which is penetrated by openings 4. The jacket 3 is delimited at the top by a closed lid roof 5. The lower edge of the casing 3 can form the lower cover edge 6, which is preferably widened. The inner body 19 is designed as a hollow body open on both sides, which is composed of a lower prismatic jacket piece 9 and a tapered jacket region adjoining this at the top. The outside of the lower jacket piece 9 lies against the inside of the jacket 3, preferably with a press fit. The two bodies 18, 19 could also be glued, soldered, welded or pressed into one another by reshaping. The two bodies 18, 19 are preferably in their assembled state as a unit that is difficult or impossible to remove, so that the cover 2 as a whole of the two bodies 18, 19 extends from the hollow body 1 that is open on one side
can be lifted off and put back on.
In a less preferred embodiment variant, the two bodies 18, 19 could also be loose or easily separable, so that these, or only the outer body 18, are individually plugged onto the hollow body 1, which is open at the top, and from it
can be removed.
As illustrated in the central opening 4 of the cover 2, the inner upper edge of the inner wall 7 extends almost to half the height of the opening 4. For illustration, the center line (dashed) and the two quarter lines (dotted) of the central opening 4 shown. The inner wall 7 preferably extends over more than a quarter of the height of the opening 4. In one embodiment variant, the inner wall 7 can also extend over more than half the height of the openings 4. The inner wall 7 preferably extends over at least a quarter up to
maximum three-quarters of the height of the openings 4. In one
Page 9
Design variant, the inner wall 7 can also over the
extend the entire height of the openings 4.
As illustrated in the figures, the jacket 3 of the cover 2 is preferably present as a jacket surface of a rotating body, that is to say as a jacket surface of a body whose surface is formed by rotating a generating curve around an axis of rotation. The openings 4 represent interruptions of this circumferential surface which are limited in the circumferential direction. In an axial longitudinal section through the cover 2, the openings 4 thus lie as
Interruptions to the generating curve of the rotating body.
Fig. 2 illustrates a lid 2 and an upwardly open hollow body 1, the characteristics of which are also independent of one another
can be realized.
In FIG. 2, the openings 4 are formed in that the jacket 3 of the cover 2 is formed inwards in a plurality of regions which are respectively limited in the circumferential direction, so that there are interruptions in the axial longitudinal section through the cover 2 of the generating curve of the rotating body, and in these indentations there is at least one hole 17 which connects the inside and the outside of the cover 2. An inner wall 7 extends inwards and upwards from the lower edge of the respective opening 4, the upper inner edge of the inner wall 7 forming the lower edge of the hole 17. Precipitation, which arrives at an angle from above through the opening 4, impinges against the inner wall 7 and runs along it from the opening 4, so that penetration of precipitation into the interior of the hollow body 1, which is open at the top, is prevented. The outer wall of the cover 2 lies above the hole 17 and around the indentation
as the outer surface of the rotating body.
As illustrated in FIG. 2, the inner walls 7 preferably extend over the entire vertical extent of their respective opening 4. This means that the inner wall 7 with the
Side edge of the respective opening 4 is connected.
Page 10
The hollow body 1, which is open at the top, has, as in the example in FIG. 1, a plurality of support webs 11 and push-on webs 12, so that there are inlets 14 between the lower lid edge 6 and the widening 10 and between the inner lateral surface of the lid 2 and the outer lateral surface of the hollow body 1 channels 13. The channels 13 open into the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 and the lower edge of the indentations
Inside of the device.
The variant shown in Fig. 3 serves to illustrate that the openings 4 in the lid also in two or more vertical
staggered rows can be arranged.
Independently of this, it is illustrated in FIG. 3 that the inner walls 7 extend at least over part of the vertical extent of their respective opening 4. This means that the inner walls 7 at least over a partial area with the
Side edge of the respective opening 4 are connected.
FIG. 4 illustrates a possible configuration of the plug-on webs 12. In this less preferred embodiment variant, the plug-on webs 12 can be present on the inner lateral surface of the cover 2, so that channels 13 result between the inner lateral surface of the cover 2 and the outer lateral surface of the hollow body which is open at the top . 4, these plug-on webs 12 can be present on the inner body 19 of the cover 2, which has an inner wall 7 for all openings
4 forms.
As shown in FIG. 4 independently of this, the cover 2 can form the support webs 11 which project downwards from the lower edge of the cover 6 and rest on the widening 10 of the hollow body 1 which is open at the top. Alternatively, the support webs 11 in FIG. 4 can instead be widened
10 of the hollow body 1 may be arranged.
In the example of FIG. 4, the inner body 19 is provided with recesses which extend from its lower edge upwards to above
the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 which is open at the top
Page 11
extend, the remaining webs of material between the recesses forming the plug-on webs 12 and support webs 11 by the inner body 19 downwards from the outer body
18 protrudes with the remaining webs of material.
5 and 6 serve to illustrate that the cover 2 also with the inner lateral surface of the inner wall 7 or a plurality of inner walls 7 on top of the hollow body 1 which is open at the top
can rest.
As illustrated in FIG. 5, the cover 2 can rest on the upper edge 16 with a plurality of inner surfaces of the inner walls 7 of different openings 4. In this case the
Hollow body 1 can also be designed without widening 10.
Irrespective of this, FIG. 5 illustrates a variant in which the plug-on webs 12 are formed by molding the shell 3 of the cover 2. These indentations form elevations on the inner lateral surface of the cover 2, which lie against the outer lateral surface of the hollow body 1. The channels 13 lie between the elevations on the inner lateral surface
of the cover 2.
Air flowing upwards through the channels 13 can flow into the interior of the device between the support points or support areas of respectively adjacent inner walls 7. Air passes from the channels 13 above the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 and below the inner edges 8 of the inner walls 7
inside the device.
6 illustrates that the hollow body 1 can have support webs 11 on its upper edge 16, which protrude upwards from the upper edge, so that the cover 2 rests on this support web 11 with the inner lateral surface of a circumferential inner wall 7. There are horizontal slots between the support webs 11, through which air from the channels 13 enters the interior of the device. Air passes from the channels 13 above the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1 and below
the inner edge 8 of the inner wall 7 into the interior of the device.
page 12
The support webs 11 are realized in FIG. 6 in that the push-on webs 12, which protrude radially from the outer lateral surface of the hollow body 1, project above the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1. In contrast to what is shown in FIG. 6, the support webs 11 could also be in a straight extension of the upper edge 16 of the hollow body 1. In this case, additional attachment webs 12 on the hollow body 1 or on
Cover 2 should be present.
7 illustrates a particularly preferred embodiment variant of the cover 2. The cover 2 is composed of an outer body 18 and an inner body 19. The outer body 18 has the jacket 3, which of
Openings 4 is broken through and has a top roof 5.
The inner body 19 has a circumferential inner wall 7 which is inclined upward and inward, to which a vertical jacket piece 9 adjoins at the bottom. The horizontal widening of the inner edge 8 towards the inside, as shown in FIG. 7, is optional, but can be done with regard to the direction of the air flow
to the center of the device.
As shown, the widening at the lower edge of the cover 2 can preferably be on the inner body 19. For this purpose, the lower edge of the inner body 19 can be rolled outwards or folded outwards, or generally be of a greater material or jacket thickness. It is advantageous that the wider lower edge of the inner body 19 forms a support surface for the outer body 18, so that the height of the inner wall 7 with respect to the openings 4 is predetermined when the inner body 19 is completely inserted into the outer body 18. The lower edges 20 of the openings 4 and the lower, outer edge 21 of the inner wall 7 are preferably at a height so that no water can collect between the bodies 18, 19. For optical reasons, the lower edges 20 of the openings 4 can also lie below the outer lower edge 21 of the inner wall 7. The bottom edge 20
the respective opening 4 preferably runs at least over one
Page 13
Partial area parallel and flush to the outer lower edge 21 of the
Inner wall 7.
The cover 2 of FIG. 7 is particularly preferred together with
an upwardly open hollow body 1 according to FIG. 1 is used.
8 and FIG. 9 illustrate that a first imaginary line, which runs from the upper edge of the respective opening 4 of the cover 2 to the upper edge or the inner edge 8 of the inner wall 7 of the cover 2 located in its peripheral region, also runs with it a second imaginary vertical line running through the upper edge of the opening 4 of the cover 2 encloses an angle 22 of at least 10 °, preferably of at least 15 °, in particular at least 30 °. In a variant
the angle can be at least 45 °.
As shown in FIG. 8, the upper edge of the inner wall 7 can form a common inner edge 8 for all openings 4 of the cover 2. As illustrated in FIG. 9, there can be an inner edge 8 in the region of each opening 4, this being possible, as already described, by local shaping of the jacket 3 or, as shown in FIG. 9, by using an inner body 19, which has these indentations. The inner body 19 can be designed as the jacket 3 of the cover 2 for the examples of FIGS. 2, 3 and 5 has been described. For example, the inner body 19, as shown in FIG. 9, with its shell regions present between the indentations on the inner shell surface of the
Coat 3 of the outer body 18 abut.
